World Cup fun at Red Bus Bingo

Red Bus Bingo is a relatively new bingo site and have some great promotions. Like several other sites they have been running a special promotion for the World Cup, but as it’s linked to England’s progress who knows if it will last for much longer.

The third game in their World Cup series will take place at 9.30pm on Wednesday 23rd, after England play Slovenia, so any football fans will be able to watch the game and then play bingo afterwards. Over the last 2 weeks many operators have been announcing their financial results, some faring a lot better than others, and the latest to join them is Bingo.com. They revealed that the first quarter saw a fall of $344,806 compared to that of 2009 – some of this they attributed to the strengthening of the Canadian dollar but most of this they believe is due to the change in software.

The CEO of Bingo.com, Tarnie Williams, explained that the new software in Q1 didn’t perform as well as expected and halted plans to enter the UK bingo market, which is extremely competitive at the moment. This resulted in Bingo.com partnering with Unibet, which in turn led to the new Bingo.com website which has just been unveiled. The new bingo site is available in 23 different languages, which they are sure will lead to far better financial results, though as the Unibet based site was launched in mid Q2 the results may take a while longer to show.

Bingo identity thief claim

A Reading pensioner has claimed that over £6000 was ‘lost’ after thieves hacked into 3 accounts at different internet bingo sites, one of them being Dream Bingo. She says that a total of £9000 had been gambled and lost, with only £3000 being withdrawn back.

Rita Tapping started to play online bingo in 2007 after her husband suffered a stroke. He would go to bed at 6pm and she would play online, though she said only a maximum of £20 at a time. Despite her claims though both the Financial Ombudsman and her bank, Natwest, have said that she is not entitled to any compensation as any winnings could only be withdrawn to Mrs Tapping’s bank account and therefore they could find no motive for anyone to play bingo on her accounts.

She believes that thieves hacked into her unsecure wireless network and played without her knowledge. Dream Bingo are alleged to have offered her a refund of £3,600, which Natwest advised her not to accept as that would mean she could no longer claim she had been a victim of fraud.

She says that the stress caused by this led her into having a breakdown and that she had to then put her husband into a care home as she was no longer able to look after him herself.

Mrs Tapping told the Reading Post: “My only crime was I used an unprotected wireless router. I think somebody local picked up on that. They did not need to get into my account because I was already in it. They picked up on where I was and I believe they gambled for fun and kicks. If I had been mentally strong enough and had not had this on my mind I would have had him at home, but I had to put him in a home. I had a total mental breakdown. He was aware of it but there was nothing he could do. He was incontinent and paralysed. I used to go to the nursing home and he would just say, ‘I want to come home’. It was definitely a contributing factor in his death, definitely. He could see that I was stressed. I was so stressed I could not look after him. I had to have him put in a home. It was a very sad time in my life and he died still worrying about the money.”

As strange stories go this is one of the strangest we’ve heard in a long time, and one which will probably never come to a satisfactory conclusion.

Disappointing 2nd quarter results for 888

One of the largest companies in the gaming industry, 888, have announced that revenues in the 2nd quarter have been disappointing. 888 operate 888 Ladies and Wink Bingo, and also provide the software to a large number of bingo sites, including Think Bingo, Foxy Bingo and Cheeky Bingo. As soon as the results were announced shares fell from 98p to 80p, and Playtech’s shares fell in sympathy. 888 is now capitalised at £280 million.

Some of the fall was expected, following usual seasonal trends, but as the fall was greater than expected analysts believe that poor operating performance was also a factor. A stock exchange announcement said that “Q2 Trading to date has been disappointing in casino, poker and bingo…during the first 25 days of the quarter daily average revenue was approximately 13 per cent below the Q1 average.”

Chief Executive Gigi Levy said: “While Q1 saw improvement on a year-on-year basis, B2C trading remains challenging across our product range, partly influenced by the seasonal pattern.
“Emerging Offering continues to out-perform the core products, and Dragonfish continues to win new deals, notably those in the newly regulated Italian market with bwin Italia and Gioco Digitale. However, revenue from new deals is yet to gain significant volume. We believe that the right steps are being taken to counter the current challenges we face,
and the board remains confident in 888’s strategy.”

888 has been battling against increased competition, both in its business to business sector, with Playtech and Party Gaming emerging as strong competitors, and its consumer facing brands, where casino and poker are important factors.

888’s Dragonfish revenues are dominated by the Cashcade sites, so it is good news that 888 have recently signed an extension to their software providing deal with Cashcade for another 2 years.

Londonbingo staff have been playing silk bingo over the week end, we had been playing around newest addition to londonbingos bingo bonus rooms. We was all very surpised at how good the games was.
