Cheeky £500 Jackpot Win

It’s always great when you win at bingo and collect your winnings – but one very cheeky woman has just collected a £500 jackpot prize without actually winning it! The staff at Mecca Bingo Ltd, Garrick Parade, Southport were extremely embarrassed when they discovered the truth – but unfortunately this was only when the real woman came to collect her prize, and by that time the crafty customer was long gone.

Apparently the usual procedure for any players cashing out their winnings is for them to present their bingo membership card, along with their winning ticket number. In this case this was not done, though whether the woman somehow distracted them or the staff simply forgot is not too clear. The fraudster claimed that she was the winner’s friend, and the staff happily gave her the £500 for hitting the jackpot. A little later though the real winner, along with her membership card and winning ticket turned up. The bingo hall staff were understandably not too happy to have to pay out twice for the prize, although as it was totally their mistake for not following their own procedures the second £500 was swiftly paid out.

The local police have been informed, and as well as examining all relevant CCTV footage they’re also conducting interviews in the local area, with the hope that they can catch the trickster. She obviously had her eyes down for a confidence trick as well as the game!
