Rock and Roll Bingo grows

Bingo may have been played for many years but there’s still room for it to evolve, and one form of bingo that is rising in popularity is Rock and Roll Bingo.

This was invented by Mark Walsh from Leeds who first played it in his local pub. In it numbers on the card are replaced by song titles, and instead of numbers being called clips of music are played. It has been growing in popularity over the last year and is now played in nearly 350 bingo clubs across the country. It has been described as having a DJ, quiz master and a fun game all rolled into one. More importantly it is also said to keep the players in the club for longer and increase the spend per head, as well as creating a great atmosphere.

Rock and Roll Bingo got a further boost recently when Walsh was a contestant on the popular Radio 2 Ken Bruce Popmaster spot. Here he managed to get 24 points, no doubt helped by his role where he is surrounded by music, and got through to the ‘Three in Ten’ round. Here he had to name Westlife hits in 10 seconds, although the pressure was just a little too much and he only managed to get two. However he did manage to get more publicity for his game which certainly can only help.

As the concept grows with more and more bingo clubs trying it we’re waiting for the day when it makes an appearance in Internet bingo. We’re sure there must be some software developer who can help make the transition, and we’ll be certainly looking forward to it, music whilst you play!
