Blind Woman Still Playing Bingo

For some people a loss of sight would be devastating, but one determined American lady decided that this would not stop her playing her favourite game of bingo and she would carry on anyway.

Mrs Archer used to play frequently with her daughter Peggy, and regularly played several cards at the same time. Unfortunately nearly 19 years ago she had a stroke, and eventually lost her eyesight. Her son Bill was concerned she would be unable to continue to Play Bingo, but as her sight worsened she managed to memorise the numbers on a couple of cards, and with the help of family members continued to do this.

Recently he arrived at her Bluefield nursing home to find she had already started a game. On the next card he noticed she was covering up the wrong numbers. He didn’t say anything to begin with, and only did at the same moment she called bingo. He thought it was an embarrassing mistake until the call was deemed to be correct and his mother explained; “Oh, I forgot to turn it over. I was playing the card on the other side.”

We’ve heard before of clubs who have helped out their players by making the tickets larger, and deaf players can often enjoy the game as most modern clubs have hearing loops, so those with compatible hearing aids don’t have to miss out on the fun. We’re always pleased to hear of players overcoming problems to continue playing bingo, and hope to report many more like this.
